Dr. med. Vinzenz Fleischer (Universitätsmedizin Mainz) ist der erste Preisträger des Otto-Löwenstein-Preises 2020.
In 2020, Dr. Vizenz Fleischer received the previous (first) OLRA for his innovative research on functional cerebral adaptations observed among clinically stable Multiple Sclerosis patients. His resting state fMRI research indicated changes of long-distance effective connectivity between supratentorial cerebral and cerebellar regions over the course of one year of observation in spite the fact that participants remained clinically stable. His research might well indicate adaptive cerebral processes that support stable functioning and activities in brain-damaged people that couldn’t be detected otherwise, e.g. clinically. Thereby, it exemplifies an innovative approach to adaptive brain plasticity research with high relevance for neurorehabilitation.
